What we did

This villa façade painting project in Almancil, completed in 2025, covered a traditional single-storey house with a balustraded parapet, together with the garden wall that runs along the street. Photographs taken before the work show walls and façades worn down by time, with the colour patchy from one end to the other.

We started by pressure washing the façades to remove dirt, loose particles and any paint that was no longer bonded to the substrate. Once the surface was clean and dry, a resin was applied to prepare it for the layers that followed.

Next came a full skim coat in fibre-reinforced mortar. This is the stage that evens out the façade: the progress photographs show the whole house in grey, already uniform, before the final colour went on. The fibres reinforce the skim coat and help resist new cracking.

The finish is CIN 100% acrylic paint in white. The balustraded parapet was picked out in two tones and the base of the house given an ochre band, keeping the look of a traditional Algarve house.

For the owner, the result is a façade that is level, protected and one even colour from the garden wall to the parapet. The before-and-after slider on this page shows the same street corner, photographed from the same spot, before and after the work.

Area

Almancil, in the municipality of Loulé, is the gateway to Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago. Alongside newer villas it keeps traditional single-storey houses like this one, with white walls and parapets, exposed all year to strong sun and salt air from the coast. On façades like these, paint only lasts if the substrate is dealt with first, which is why this project began with washing and skimming rather than with paint.
